Editors' Choice Awards 2001
By David Nolan, Managing Editor

Our panel of experts, Steve Caudill, Rocky Oliver, Henry Newberry, Brian Benz, Greg Pepus, and Jamie Magee, searched the Lotusphere 2001 trade show floor for innovative developmental products. We hope the following information serves as a guide for you in your development efforts. Some products will be familiar to you from previous years, but please take note of the newcomers as well. To be considered, products had to have been in full release at the time of judging.

TurboGold

TurboGold is a tool for reducing replication times by developers who built and understand communications protocols extremely well. The TurboGold developers have found ways to use the batch-oriented line usage techniques that were pioneered in the 1970s, when high speed lines ran at 4800 bits per second. Now that most of us are connected at speeds of 56K or higher, effective line utilization seems less important, until you have hundreds of remote users and/or servers using those resources. In the large environment, reductions of 50 percent in line utilization can amount to very significant cost reductions as well as increased user acceptance.

Using its patented caching, compression, and streaming techniques, TurboGold accelerates replications between servers and users by nearly an order of magnitude. Replication sessions that previously took 10 minutes are completing in less than two minutes. And it's virtually transparent to the end user. Stampede has made deployment and administration of the TurboGold system as seamless as possible, letting administrators get it out to their users in a timely and effective manner. If you have more than 10 remote Notes users, you should look at TurboGold.

“Stampede is setting a de facto standard for optimized control of Domino data and associated Web acceleration throughout an enterprise. The business benefits are clear:  improved reliability and speed of data replications over all levels of network connections, with the ability to conduct backups of huge caches of data types in minutes instead of hours.”
