Performance Statistics & Benefits

Q. During the standard replication process, how does TurboGold achieve the performance gains realized in Lotus Notes database replication?

A. TurboGold uses patented compression and streaming techniques to accelerate the speed of Lotus Notes database replication. The Lotus Notes are first intercepted by TurboGold and compressed. They are then carefully assembled in larger packets that are streamed to either the TurboGold client or the TurboGold verifier providing a much more efficient communication scheme. This process is further enhanced by TurboGold’s patented caching process. Further, TurboGold's patented techniques are adaptive. This means that allowing the compression to be throttled. This is an important feature because it avoids the problem of saturating CPUs on a Domino Server when network compression is performed over a high speed link.

Q. What kind of performance improvement can realistically be expected from TurboGold during replication?

A. Database replications over a slow communication link (<=128 KB) will receive the greatest benefits from TurboGold. Some of the improvement is attributed to TurboGold‘s streaming algorithms, which are most beneficial in Internet connections (including VPN), WAN, or wireless environment. A higher degree of performance improvement is due to data compression meaning that data, which is highly compressible, will yield better results. For example, an email database containing many attachments can yield dramatic improvements because attachments are highly compressible. 3 to 5 times performance gains are typically achieved and higher transfer rates are possible depending on data content. For satellite and wireless communications, the transfer rates are much higher due to TurboGold’s ability to substantially reduce the latency delays between Lotus Notes packets.

Q. How can I see how much data is being saved by TurboGold during a replication?

A. Within TurboGold‘s client software you can view the “Lotus Notes Statistics” screen shown below.

Lotus Notes Statistics Screen in the TurboGold client

In this example the database that was replicated was over 11 MB as shown in “Bytes Processed” (11,384,114). TurboGold compressed this database by 67% as reflected in the progress bar. The actual number of bytes that TurboGold saved was over 7 MB as shown in “Bytes Saved” (7,658,917) meaning that only 3,725,197 bytes had to be actually transferred.

Q. How can I measure the overall benefits of AutoZip?

A. The bytes saved by AutoZip are shown in the "Remote Replications" view and the "Inbound Mail Routing" view of tgoldstat.nsf (see below).

Q. How can a user measure the benefits they are receiving from AutoZip?

A. The TurboGold client can view their individual AutoZip savings for replication and online retrievals in the “Stampede TurboGold Notes Acceleration Statistics” screen.

"WebRider has already far exceeded our expectations. Our online training module’s sign-on screen load time was reduced 75%; and with WebRider we had nearly 2 to 1 greater response times with our inventory application."
